German Chocolate Cake Recipe
This three-layer German Chocolate Cake is filled and topped with a Coconut Pecan frosting.

What You Need
• 4 ounces German sweet chocolate
• 1/2 cup boiling water
• 1 cup butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 4 egg yolks
• 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 1/2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup buttermilk

• 1 cup evaporated milk
• 1 cup sugar
• 3 egg yolks
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 1/3 cup coconut
• 1 cup chopped pecans

What To Do
1. Preheat oven to 350F and line three 9-inch cake pans with wax paper.

2. Add chocolate to boiling water to melt. All to cool until just warm (make sure chocolate does not congeal).

3. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar, then add egg yolks, vanilla and chocolate.

4. Add dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, then fold in egg whites.

5. Pour mixture into prepared cake pans and bake 30-35 minutes.

6. Allow to cool before applying frosting to tops, but not sides, of each layer.

1. Add ingredients other than coconut and pecans to saucepan and combine.

2. Put over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 12 minutes. Mixture should thicken.

3. Remove from heat after thickening, then stir in coconut and pecans. Allow to cool until mixture becomes spreadable.
