Mom's Spaghetti Recipe - and old-fashioned spaghetti dish just like mom (yours, mine, somebody's!) used to make. This recipe makes 6-8 servings.
What You Need
2 pounds ground chuck
1 cup onions, finely chopped
2 minced garlic cloves
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
2 (8-oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 (36-oz.) can Italian-style tomatoes
1 cup water
1 pound spaghetti
What To Do
1. Saute ground chuck, onion, and garlic in a dutch oven over medium heat until meat is browned and onion is tender.
2. Add sugar, salt, basil and red pepper and mix. The add tomatoes, tomato sauce and water.
Mash tomatoes with wooden spoon.
3. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 90 minutes to 2 hours - until thickened. (Stir frequently)
4. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions, drain, then spoon sauce over top.
