Old Fashioned Cornbread Recipe
This Old-Fashioned Cornbread recipe makes 10 servings.
What You Need
4 cups cornmenal
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
4 eggs, beaten
4 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup bacon drippings
What To Do
1. Preheat oven to 400F. Grease a 10 1/2-inch cast iron skillet and place in oven for 3 minutes.
2. Prepare batter while skillet is heating; when skillet is heated, remove from oven and increase temperature to 450F.
3. For batter, combine dry ingredients first, then add eggs and buttermilk and mix well. Stir in bacon drippings.
4. Pour into heated skillet and bake 40 minutes or until golden brown.
